Holiday 2008
This time of year is always so special for our women's basketball community. Recently, we have been treated to many great on-court memories. Home victories over Michigan State and BYU helped put the Hawks on the national map the past couple of years. And who could ever forget last November's magical run in Hawaii? Hartford won three games in three days, knocking off Virginia in the title tilt, to win the eight-team Rainbow Wahine Classic.
Certainly, this November has carried on the tradition. The Hawks' 53-51 win over sixth-ranked Duke was the biggest of all regular-season victories for a program still struggling to get games against the nation's best. Tournament games on a neutral court are often the only chance a team like Hartford will get to play a program like Duke. Talk about making the most of an opportunity.
Yet, even with all the excitement on the court, the holiday season means so much more to the Flight Zone. Once again, we are collecting new toys to drop off down the road at the Village for Families and Children. More than ever in 2008, these toys will enable the Village to brighten the holidays for the youngsters it serves. Please bring one or more unwrapped toys to the Flight Zone table on Dec. 6.
We wish each and every member of the Flight Zone a healthy, safe, and joyous holiday season. See you in 2009 for our winter brunch, road trip to Stony Brook, open practice/lunch with a player, and more. The University of Hartford women's basketball takes a step forward each year. The Flight Zone is pleased and proud to be right there alongside.
The happiest of holidays to all.
